Infertility Treatment Procedures

Infertility medical procedures are specialised diagnostic and therapeutic interventions used to investigate the cause of infertility and assist conception. They include surgical procedures (laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, ovarian drilling for PCOS), laboratory procedures (ICSI, PGT & embryo biopsy), and preservation procedures (egg freezing). No single procedure is right for every patient, the correct infertility procedure is always based on a confirmed diagnosis.

The ICSI infertility treatment procedure (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) involves injecting a single healthy sperm directly into a mature egg under microscope guidance. It is the most widely used infertility treatment procedure in IVF and is recommended for low sperm count, poor sperm motility, surgically retrieved sperm, or previous failed IVF fertilisation. At Javitri Hospital, ICSI is performed using a computerised injection system for greater precision and improved fertilisation outcomes.

The infertility treatment procedures available at Javitri Hospital include: Hysteroscopy (uterine cavity diagnosis and treatment), ICSI (the infertility treatment ICSI procedure for fertilisation in IVF), PGT & Embryo Biopsy (genetic testing of embryos before transfer), Egg Freezing (oocyte cryopreservation), Ovarian Drilling (laparoscopic treatment for PCOS), and Laparoscopy (pelvic diagnosis and operative treatment). Hysteroscopy is an infertility medical procedure in which a thin telescope is passed through the cervix to directly view the inside of the uterus. It is used to diagnose and treat uterine causes of infertility, polyps, fibroids inside the cavity, uterine septum, and adhesions (Asherman’s syndrome). At Javitri Hospital, hysteroscopy is routinely offered before IVF cycles to confirm the uterine cavity is normal and free of lesions that could impair implantation.

Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) is an infertility medical procedure in which mature eggs are retrieved, vitrified (flash-frozen), and stored for future use. It is recommended for women who wish to preserve fertility for personal or medical reasons, including before chemotherapy or radiotherapy that may damage the ovaries, women with low ovarian reserve, and those undergoing IVF who wish to store surplus eggs. Frozen eggs can be thawed and used with ICSI years later.

Ovarian drilling (Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling / LOD) is a surgical infertility treatment procedure performed for women with PCOS who have not responded to oral ovulation induction (Letrozole or Clomiphene). Small punctures are made in the ovarian surface using diathermy, which reduces androgen production and often triggers regular ovulation. It is a day-care laparoscopic procedure with a lasting benefit, many women achieve natural ovulation and conception following ovarian drilling without requiring IVF.

Not necessarily, but for many patients, certain infertility medical procedures performed before IVF significantly improve success rates. At Javitri Hospital, we recommend hysteroscopy before IVF if there is any suggestion of a uterine abnormality on ultrasound, a history of recurrent implantation failure, or if the uterine cavity has not been formally assessed. Similarly, laparoscopy may be advised if endometriosis or tubal disease is suspected. Your specialist will advise what, if any, procedure is indicated in your case.

PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing) is an infertility treatment procedure in which cells are removed from IVF embryos before uterine transfer and tested for chromosomal abnormalities or specific genetic conditions. It significantly improves IVF success rates and reduces miscarriage risk. PGT is recommended for women over 35, couples with recurrent IVF failure, recurrent miscarriage, or known carriers of genetic conditions.
