Donor sperm IVF is in vitro fertilisation carried out using sperm from a screened donor rather than from a partner. Eggs are collected from the intended mother, fertilised in the laboratory with the donor sample, and the resulting embryo is transferred to her uterus. She carries the pregnancy and is the legal mother throughout. In every respect other than the source of the sperm, it is a standard IVF cycle.

The donor sperm itself comes only from a registered ART bank, never from a known or private donor, which Indian law does not permit. The sample arrives already screened and quarantined, with non-identifying details such as blood group, height, complexion and education available so a suitable match can be made. The Donor Sperm IVF Process

From the first consultation to the embryo transfer, here is how a donor sperm IVF cycle works at Javitri.

1. Consultation and Evaluation

A full assessment of both partners, or of the single woman, confirms whether donor sperm is the right route and rules out alternatives. Counselling is offered to talk through the decision.

2. Consent and Legal Formalities

Detailed consent forms under the ART Act are completed, covering anonymity, parental rights and the donor’s full relinquishment of any claim. This protects everyone, especially the child.

3. Donor Matching

A suitable sample is selected from the registered ART bank using non-identifying details such as blood group and physical characteristics, to make a sensible match for you.

4. Ovarian Stimulation

The intended mother has an individualised course of stimulation, monitored by scan and blood test, to grow a good number of eggs for collection.

5. Egg Collection and Fertilisation

Eggs are collected in a short day care procedure and fertilised with the donor sperm in our laboratory, often by ICSI, then grown under Embryoscope monitoring.

6. Embryo Transfer

The best embryo is transferred to the intended mother’s uterus, with any good extra embryos frozen for future use. A pregnancy test follows about two weeks later.

Donor sperm can be used with either IUI or IVF, and the right choice depends on the intended mother’s own fertility, not only on the sperm.

If her tubes are open, her ovarian reserve is good and there is no other significant factor, donor sperm IUI is often tried first, because it is simpler and lower in cost. Prepared donor sperm is placed in the uterus around ovulation. Where her age, tubes, ovarian reserve or a previous failed IUI point away from it, donor sperm IVF gives the higher chance in fewer cycles, because fertilisation and embryo selection happen in the laboratory.
