Female Infertility Care · Since 1997

PCOS & Infertility

PCOS is one of the most common reasons couples struggle to conceive — and one of the most treatable. With the right PCOS infertility treatment, most women with polycystic ovary syndrome go on to have healthy pregnancies. At Javitri Hospital, treatment follows a clear, stepwise path: lifestyle support first, then ovulation-inducing medicines, then IUI or IVF only if genuinely needed — never a one-size-fits-all package.

How PCOS Affects Fertility

Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, is a hormonal condition in which the ovaries produce higher levels of androgens than usual. This disturbs the monthly cycle, so eggs may mature slowly or not be released at all. Because ovulation is irregular or absent, conceiving naturally becomes harder — which is why PCOS is one of the most common causes of female infertility.

The encouraging part is that PCOS and infertility treatment together have a very good outlook. The underlying eggs are usually healthy; the problem is that they are not being released on schedule. Once ovulation is restored — through lifestyle changes, medicines or fertility treatment — most women with PCOS are able to conceive. At Javitri, your treatment starts with a proper diagnosis: hormone testing, ultrasound and your partner’s semen analysis, all in-house, so any advice you receive is grounded in real findings. Signs PCOS May Be Affecting Your Fertility

PCOS shows up differently in different women. If you are trying to conceive and notice any of these, a fertility evaluation is worth doing sooner rather than later.

PCOS Infertility Treatment Options

There is no single treatment that suits every woman with PCOS. These are the main PCOS infertility treatment options, used step by step depending on your diagnosis, age and how long you have been trying.

How We Follow PCOS Infertility Treatment Guidelines

Good PCOS care is not guesswork. International PCOS infertility treatment guidelines — drawn up by bodies of fertility specialists worldwide — recommend a stepwise approach, and that is exactly how treatment is planned at Javitri.

  • Diagnosis first: hormone profile, ultrasound and semen analysis before any treatment
  • Lifestyle change as the foundation, with realistic diet and activity support
  • Letrozole as the preferred first-line tablet for ovulation induction
  • Careful ultrasound monitoring of every medicated cycle
  • Gonadotropins or IUI only if tablets are not enough
  • IVF reserved for when it is genuinely indicated — with PCOS-adjusted protocols to reduce the risk of overstimulation

Following this order matters: it means most women conceive with the simplest, safest and least expensive treatment that works for them. Meet Dr. Rajul Tyagi, who leads our fertility programme.

THE STEPWISE PATHWAY
Step 1Diagnosis & lifestyle support
Step 2Ovulation tablets + scan tracking
Step 3Gonadotropin injections

Diet and Lifestyle for PCOS

Lifestyle change is the foundation of polycystic ovary syndrome treatment — and for many women it is enough to restart ovulation on its own. Our dietitians help you make changes that fit real life, not a crash diet.

  • Choose whole grains, dals, vegetables and protein over refined carbohydrates and sugar
  • Aim for regular activity most days — brisk walking counts
  • Even modest weight loss can restore regular cycles if you are overweight
  • Prioritise sleep and manage stress, both of which influence hormones

PCOS Care Beyond Fertility

Because Javitri is a complete women’s hospital, PCOS and infertility treatment here does not stop at conception. PCOS can raise the chance of gestational diabetes and blood pressure problems in pregnancy, so our obstetric team monitors these closely once you conceive — and our fetal medicine unit and 30-bed NICU are on the same campus if extra care is ever needed.

Managing PCOS also protects your long-term health, since the condition is linked to diabetes and heart disease later in life. The habits you build during treatment continue to pay off well beyond pregnancy. Read about our complete pregnancy care.

PCOS & Infertility — FAQs

Yes — most women with PCOS can conceive with the right treatment. The core problem in PCOS is irregular ovulation, not damaged eggs, so once ovulation is restored through lifestyle change, medicines or fertility treatment, the chances of pregnancy are good. Many women conceive with the simplest steps alone.

The first step is lifestyle change — modest weight loss and regular activity restart ovulation for many women on their own. If cycles remain irregular, ovulation-inducing tablets such as letrozole are the recommended first-line medicine, taken with ultrasound tracking so treatment is well timed.

No. IVF is a later step, not the starting point. Most women with PCOS conceive with lifestyle support, ovulation tablets, injections or IUI. IVF is advised when these have not worked, when other fertility factors are present, or when your age and history make it the sensible route — and we explain exactly why before recommending it.

PCOS is diagnosed from the overall picture, not a single test: your cycle history, signs of higher androgens such as excess hair or acne, hormone blood tests and an ultrasound of the ovaries. Other conditions with similar symptoms, like thyroid problems, are ruled out first. All of this testing is done in-house at Javitri.

For women who are overweight, yes — even a modest reduction can restart regular ovulation and improve the response to fertility medicines. It is the reason lifestyle support comes first in treatment guidelines. Our dietitians build a plan around everyday Indian meals so the changes are realistic to keep up.

Your first consultation is Rs 600 with Dr. Rajul Tyagi or Rs 400 with Dr. Niharika or Dr. Lavanya Tyagi, with an ultrasound at Rs 800 if advised. Ovulation induction cycles are far less expensive than IVF; IUI starts from Rs 20,000 and IVF from Rs 95,000. You receive a written, itemised estimate before any treatment begins, and 0% EMI is available.

Metformin improves the body’s response to insulin, which is often part of the problem in PCOS. It can help regularise cycles and is sometimes combined with ovulation tablets, but it is not usually used alone as a fertility treatment. Whether it belongs in your plan depends on your tests and history.

PCOS can slightly raise the chance of gestational diabetes and blood pressure problems in pregnancy, which is why continued monitoring matters. Because Javitri is a complete hospital, the same team that helps you conceive also monitors your pregnancy, with fetal medicine and a 30-bed NICU on campus if ever needed.
